Geophysical Instruments

CAST currently uses the three geophysical instruments listed below. These instruments have proven to be highly effective at a wide range of archaeological sites. Recent projects where the instruments have been used include work at Tiwanaku in Bolivia as well as Tell Qarqur and Umm el Mara in Syria. Examples of recent results from the instruments are provided at the pages linked below.

GSSI SIR-3000 with 270 MHz Antenna
Bartington Grad601-2 Fluxgate Magnetic Gradiometer AGI STING R1 Earth Resistivity Meter
Ground-penetrating Radar (GPR): GSSI SIR-3000 Magnetic Gradiometer: Bartington Grad601-2 Resistivity Meter: AGI STING R1 Earth Resistivity Meter

CAST is also planning to acquire an electromagnetic induction (EMI) meter (for simultaneous measurement of electrical conductivity and magnetic susceptibility), and a second resistivity meter designed for rapid, single-depth measurements over large areas
