Information for CAST Staff:
Since procedures for CAST Staff will be different, we maintain a separate set of FAQs for staff use on the CAST Forum.
Students and faculty may use uark.edu (also known as GACL) accounts to log into the CAST lab computers, but we also create cast.uark.edu (also known as CAST) accounts to use with the CAST Windows computers. These accounts provide additional functionality over the uark.edu accounts such as roaming profiles and additional server storage space. Your GACL account uses the same login and password as your UARK email account, and uses "GACL" as the domain to login to a Microsoft Windows machine. CAST accounts are created automatically for students enrolled in classes taught in J.B. Hunt and are removed at the end of the semester in which the class is taught. Your CAST account will have a login assigned to you by CAST Systems Administrators (usually based on the course name) and use "CAST" as the domain to login to a Microsoft Windows machine.
Additionally, CAST Research accounts are available for qualified students with permission from their student advisor.
Once your server space is assigned, you can map a drive to it, allowing you to save and access your data from whichever machine you log in to.
You can temporarily store stuff to the local hard-drive in c:\temp while you're working on it, but be sure to save it to your server space before you log out. We don't do backups of the workstation drives and we routinely re-load the entire machine to update software and fix problems, so stuff saved locally can go away at any time with no way to get it back.
All machines also have CD/DVD burners so you can make your own backups. More copies of your files in more different locations means less chance of your files being lost forever.
Click "Start", "My Computer", "Tools", and "Map Network Drive". Select the drive letter you want (we usually use Z:), type in the location given to you when your server space was set up (example: \\geos1\jdoe), check the "Reconnect at logon" box, and click "Finish".

For CAST accounts, press Control-Alt-Delete and use the "Change Password" button.
The driver for the plotter is loaded on the first machine inside the door of JBHT 231. Log into that machine and, when you print, select "cast229-plotter" as the printer.
