Transatlantic Research and Debates Series

American Origin Products and the TTIP: Collaboration for Rural Development is a project funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States through the Transatlantic Research and Debates program aiming to engage researchers, producers and the public in the TTIP discussions.
During the two year funding period (January 1 2014 - December 31 2015, extended through April 29 2016) a series of panels were held in sequence of explanation, each panel building on the knowledge and concepts of the previous. A schedule of eight panels were held for the project and are listed in the table below. As each panel concluded supplementary materials, and later webinar recordings, were posted to this site.
This project offered the opportunity to:
- 1) engage more researchers in the topic to back up producer claims and help structure a proposed U.S. Geographic Indication system, and
- 2) initiate discussion among producers and producer groups directly with decision makers so that the latter group can understand how American producers are disadvantaged by the current lack of a coherent system.
